Cities built to run on cheap, abundant fossil fuels can expand quickly, but overdependence may imperil those that don't eventually diversify their energy supply, wrote Dan Moskowitz, senior software engineer at Maxis. Those "natural consequences" can take a number of forms. "I don't want to enforce sustainable design principles in the game - I want them to emerge as natural consequences of your interaction with the simulation." "The most important thing is the integrity of the simulation underneath, the stuff that represents the systems that make up a real city," wrote creative director Ocean Quigley in a recent online forum where game developers took questions from critics and fans. To the game's original repertoire of fire stations and governor's mansions, power lines and city budgets, Maxis is adding a cocktail of new challenges, including limited resources and the spillover effects of pollution.Īll of this, its architects say, is in pursuit of a more "real" virtual experience. Slated for release in 2013, the new SimCity invites players to grapple with tough choices about energy generation, environmental costs and the responsibilities shouldered by inhabitants of a planet with finite resources - choices faced by real policymakers on the very real planet Earth. After passing through half a dozen incarnations in the two decades since its debut, the game is back, and its creator, Maxis Studios, says that this time, it's putting more than bricks and mortar into the mix.

OS Version: Windows 10 Home 2004 19041.Any computer gamer old enough to remember floppy disks probably paid at least a fleeting visit to SimCity, the legendary franchise that let players build - and destroy - the metropolises of their imaginations. Please help, I'm at my wits end (other than uninstalling and reinstalling the game I guess, but I don't want to have to redo the map if it's avoidable).įile directory searched: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Regions\

#Simcity 5 custom regions update
If a file has been edited, it would stand to reason that it would update the info of that file in Windows Explorer, right? Is there a different directory I need to look in? Do I need to load the 300 or so maps into the SC4 Terrains folder in hopes of finding the right one? Is my game just broken and not liking Windows 10 (not unlikely)? I tried rebooting my machine, hoping that that would help it update the folder, but it still looks exactly the same as it did before the reboot.Īm I missing something here? I tried to google the issue and also check these forums to see if anyone had posted for a similar issue and didn't find anything relevant to my particular issue in either case. I searched through all the Region folders and all of them looked more or less the same, with no trace of my new map so that I could drop it into the Sims 2 SC4 terrain. I loaded SimCity 4 again just to be absolutely sure and I definitely saved my map to where at least the game was recognizing it was edited terrain. Small problem: all the files listed were last modified in 2010 and all of them have the name of New World (xx). I'm trying to create a custom hood map using SimCity 4, got the map basically how I wanted it, saved and quit, came back just to double check that the new map was saved in SimCity 4, saw it was and quit again, and then went to go find it in the Regions folder. Hello, I think I'm posting in the right(ish) place, it's an issue with SimCity 4 but it's affecting my playing of Sims 2 so I guess I'll post it here.
